12-29-14-POSTCARD-1 smallAt Thunder-by-the-Bay in Sarasota, we met Dane Trask, a co-founder of Physicians Marketing and Management Inc. and one of the lead organizers for the 2nd Annual “The Guy Expo”. Last year, their experiment of blending a health fair with male-centric fun interests was a huge success with over 4,000 attendees in one day.

Smiling must be part of good health. There will be high-speed race cars and boats to see, motorcycle race simulators to experience, go carts to ride, a virtual reality gun range to shoot, batting cages to hit home runs, local craft beer to sample, charity poker to win prizes (like driving a Lamborghini for a day), and professional athletes from the Tampa Bay Lightning and Pittsburgh Pirates to meet. Plus, Dane invited Team REDS/Watt-Ahh to display their 36’ Spectre Super Boat to increase the smile fest. Based on the floor plan for the Expo, the Watt-Ahh boat will be on display on the southwestern corner of the convention center and come visit us!

Each interactive/fun vendor is paired with a local medical practitioner who will offer simple health screenings such as eye exams, hearing tests, glucose and blood pressure checks and skin cancer screenings. Similar screenings are used in professional sports. Super Boat racers are disqualified the morning of race day if the test results, including blood pressure, are not in the normal range. Each racer also must pass a “dunk test” which is being suspended in a cage upside down and dropped into a swimming pool. They rely on the use of their regulator equipment to get out of the cage and swim to the surface of the water.

The Premier Sponsor for the Expo is Dr. Sean Castellucci, D.O. and Urology Partners, a division of 21st Century Oncology. They are also passionate about men’s health and encourage preventative screenings that can save one more father, husband or son. Dr. Sean states “Catching illnesses early means all the difference in the world when treating diseases.”
