51b614f7-6cf4-4249-9dec-cda5545dbbbbToday, Sarasota is once again capturing the essence of health, vitality, athleticism, endurance and longevity as home of the 2015 Modern Pentathlon World Cup. Sarasota is world-renown for its crystal white beaches, art collections at the Ringling Museum, competitive sports, healthy environment – and soon – the warmth of its citizens in welcoming over 350 international athletes at the upcoming Modern Pentathlon this month. The television broadcast of the games will be viewed by over 150 million households around the World. Executive Chair Katherine Harris and an army of local volunteers will serve as ambassadors in greeting and assisting the athletes, dignitaries and officials during the three full days of competition in five sports – fencing, swimming, equestrian jumping, running and laser shooting.

Sarasota’s Health Legacy
Early Explorers, including legendary Ponce de Leon (who searched for the mythical Fountain of Youth), were the first world travelers to discover our Gulf Coast paradise. The warm sunshine, fresh sea air and pure artesian spring waters soon gave Sarasota the reputation of being one of the healthiest places on Earth. According to a recent article in the
Herald TribuneSarasota’s first pioneer resident doctor, a Dr. Wallace, arrived in 1885, only to leave a year later because he was certain there would never be enough sick people to financially support his medical practice!

Katherine Harris inspired our banner with its Ponce de Leon and Fountain of Youth theme. We liked her bold concept of combining “ageless” Sarasota with its Sarasota-born health water, Watt-Ahh®.

Spotlight on Sarasota’s World-Class Art Community
Local artisans will have a huge spotlight throughout the Modern Pentathlon. The Closing Ceremony alone (to be held on Sunday, February 22) will have world-class performances presented by Herrmann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions, Circus Conservatory of the Arts, Perlman Music Program, The Gulfcoast Black Theatre, the Jacobites Pipe and Drum Crops.
