Without any adult supervision, AquaNew Inventor Rob Gourley (seen in the photo on the left, at ten years old) regularly took his younger sisters and cousins out in a motorized boat to explore Skaneateles Lake (one of the New York Finger Lakes that is 16 miles long and over 300 feet deep). Rob thinks this video is a good representation of his adventuresome 1950s childhood.
Who else here remembers a childhood without helmets when we rode our bikes, no childproof medicine bottles, lead paint coating our baby cribs, sugary soda at lunch and dinner, and drinking water from the garden hose? By today’s standards, we shouldn’t have survived. The fact that we grew into adults is amazing. Congratulations!
