February 19, 2025 — In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, you could add natural ingredients to turn Watt-Ahh green. There are so many choices from making leprechaun lemonade to shamrockers with added alcohol. But what are some of the natural ingredients that will turn Watt-Ahh green? Spinach or kale can be blended and then strained to get the large chunks out. Baby spinach leaves are the best to use for a milder spinach flavor or go light on the kale because it could make the drink bitter. Other natural ingredients that come to mind is a tablespoon of powdered greens or a few drops of liquid chlorophyll. When steeped in water, other healthy green-coloring ingredients include cucumber slices, green tea leaves, spirulina powder, matcha powder, or even finely chopped green herbs like parsley or mint Additional ingredient choices used to sweeten the green drink include sugar, maple syrup or lemon juice and slices for more zest. Find a four-leaf clover as garnish to give a special flourish for your green St. Patty’s drink.
One supposedly natural ingredient is a long-term plumbers’ secret recipe to turn the Chicago River green each St. Patrick’s Day. The natural dye is orange color when first added to the river until it settles in the water to turn green. LOL! It is an unknown mystery and certainly not an ingredient found in grocery stores.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and enjoy your favorite green drink!
