June 21, 2025 – At AquaNew, we concentrate on the many benefits of Watt-Ahh including its superior hydration to the body. It is important to keep our bodies hydrated during the high heat of summer, especially when we either work or exercise outside.
We think of water as being cooling too like when we jump into a swimming pool. However, when we sweat, water retains our body heat (energy) and when our skin is exposed to the air, what is called “evaporative cooling” can occur. However, in high humidity or when the air is saturated with water vapor, less evaporative cooling occurs. Yesterday, when I took a brief rest between sets of playing cardio tennis in Florida, of course I was swigging down Watt-Ahh but I also took my towel to wipe off the beads of sweat on my arms. I was immediately aware of a cooling effect when less water was on my skin. It was like accelerating the effects of any “dryness” that remained in the humid air for some cooling relief.
Some areas of the nation is experiencing Florida-like high humidity conditions this weekend. To stay cool, a fan circulating the ambient air may give some minimal cooling relief. Misting the body with water at ambient temperature may actually lessen the evaporative cooling by adding even more moisture to the surface of the skin. The best is to find an air conditioned space or a cool pool to get more immediate cooling relief for our bodies.
Stay cool out there and keep drinking liquids.
