Could Cardiac Disease Caused by Plaque Buildup in the Arteries (Atherosclerosis) Result From an Early Form of Scurvy?

Clogged ArteryLongtime Watt-Ahh® customer, Noel Marbois, sent us a link to this thought-provoking press release submitted by the Dr. Rath Research Institute in California. Scientists at the institute recently published a groundbreaking study in the American Journal of Cardiovascular Disease providing evidence to support the theory that heart disease is an early form of scurvy, a well-known disease caused by Vitamin C deficiency.

We must consume Vitamin C in our diet since human bodies, unlike other animals, do not produce Vitamin C and therefore, we may be more susceptible to developing heart disease. According to Dr. Matthias Rath, the average human diet provides sufficient Vitamin C to prevent advanced stages of scurvy. However, the amount of Vitamin C consumed in our diet may not safeguard the stability of our artery walls according to Rath. A lower level of Vitamin C deficiency may result in millions of tiny cracks and lesions developing in the artery walls.

The human body will repair damaged artery walls using cholesterol, lipoproteins and other blood risk factors. Over time, however, there is a buildup of plaque in the arteries that can lead to heart disease.

While this connection between heart disease and scurvy may be a new theory, the US Dept. of Health, the University of Maryland Medical Center and the American Heart Association all say that a Vitamin C deficiency can, in fact, affect plaque buildup in the heart which may lead to atherosclerosis and other heart diseases.

This new theory reinforces the importance of attaining a higher absorption of Vitamin C into our blood stream. There are at least two university studies which demonstrate that taking Vitamin C with Watt-Ahh® can reduce the transport time and increase the percentage of absorption of Vitamin C into the bloodstream.
