November 11, 2024 – Contrary to antiquated cultures, fasting or detox protocols are considered pointless by certain health practitioners, believing in the body’s own innate processes to remove toxins and cautioning against fasting for certain medical conditions such as diabetes. That said, detox and avoidance of toxins are still popular in the pursuant of feeling vibrant health. In fact, some of today’s practices were used centuries ago.
Short History of Detox
Ancient populations were directly exposed to heavy metals such as mercury and lead in their daily lives which were even revered in making jewelry.* In Egypt over 3,500 years ago, the oldest surviving medical manual or the “Ebers Papyrus” lists over 500 botanical substances used to purify the body of environmental toxin exposures from breathing and eating food with additives, and to eliminate bodily digestive waste.
One of the oldest traditional medical systems, Ayurvedic medicine, originally traced in India back to 200 BC, is based on toxins as one of the root causes of illness and detoxification was used to achieve healing. Many chiropractors today practice Traditional Chinese Medicine of cupping and acupuncture to regulate energy flow throughout the body. Specialty cleansing diets to avoid gluten, sugar, salt, meat and alcohol appear in the historic records of Turkey and Mongolia. Native tribes, centuries before America, fasted and burned herbs (sage) to release negative ions into the air for a feeling of wellbeing and positive energy.
* By 2000 BC, there were already records of lead toxicity within the Roman aristocracy. Detoxification methods known at that time were used to treat the massive toxin overload resulting from the daily utilization of lead.
Water-borne Detox
One of two daughters of the Greek God of Medicine is Hygie or Hygieia with an etiological meaning of healthy and living well. The word “Hygiene” is related to the Goddess’ name. Although I could not find a distinct etiological connection, I think the same for the word “Hydration”.
Healthy and effective detox requires hydration and supports the body’s natural detoxification processes including blood flow for transport of nutrients and oxygen, forming specialized fluids (saliva, tears and bile) and removal of waste from our bodies.
Fasting or starting a lower caloric diet can cause what is called a “detox fatigue”. Since detox requires energy, I am aware of several customers who drank Watt-Ahh for super hydration and an energy lift while going thru a fast detox process. We also have customers who report lower mercury concentration in their blood analyses after drinking Watt-Ahh.
I searched online for ancient methods of cleansing and purification with emphasis on using water. Since water is critical for life, no one who fasts for more than three days without water likely will not survive … a definite detox failure. Both Nordic peoples and native American tribes used sweat lodges for purification which led to today’s saunas. Water is a main ingredient to transport substances such as a coffee enemas that were discovered in Germany during the early 1900’s. In the literature, a term is found for “detox water” which typically is drinking water combined with a fruit or flavoring essence that someone may use during fasting.
The bottomline is drinking plenty of water supports your body’s natural detoxification processes whether you fast or not. We think drinking Watt-Ahh also aids in achieving an effective detox condition. We wonder if someone will prepare an article centuries from now on antiquated but effective detox routines and identify water infused with electron-rich DiTetra Gas or Watt-Ahh as one such protocol originally discovered in the USA.
